Meet Your Advisory Council Members

This month, we spoke to SmartFindExpress Council Members Cathy McCabe from Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board in Ontario, Johnnie Jackson from Baltimore County Public Schools in Maryland, Ingrid Stafford from Everett Public Schools in Washington, and Kimberly Salyers Frederick Count Public Schools in Virginia, and ERO Council Member Becky Lambert from The Schultz Center in Florida.

Cathy McCabe, HRIS Administrator

  • What is your role in your district?  Under the direction of the General Manager of Human Resources, I serve as the administrator of all the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) within the Human Resources department to ensure efficient and effective operation of all systems. I also provide professional expertise and guidance for development, enhancement and implementation all HRIS systems including the Human Resources Employee Portal for all client groups.
  • What do you enjoy most about what you do?  The most rewarding aspect of my position at Dufferin-Peel is interacting with the staff and general public on a day to day basis. I also take pride in leading projects that advance the technology of our department and ultimately provide me with an opportunity to have a positive impact on students.

Johnnie Jackson, Personnel Officer

  • What do you enjoy most about what you do?  The opportunities to employ people who, based on our review, will make an important difference in the education of children in our school system.
  • What is a tip or trick you have for doing more with less?  One of the procedures we take pride in is cross-training our office. In a cross-training environment, everyone has the opportunity to learn and understand each other’s role and position. This way, if a team member is out of the office, another employee can easily step in their place and cover that particular role in their absence.

Ingrid Stafford, Everett Public School Substitute Coordinator

  • What do you enjoy most about what you do?  I love the variety in my job and the challenges that come up everyday. I’m always reviewing our district procedures and processes, and am able to make the changes as needed to ensure my goals are met. One of my goals is “To have a professional and qualified substitute in every classroom and absence everyday, 100% fill rate”.  I am very proud to say that for 2008-09 school year we had a 98% fill rate for our Teachers!
  • What advice do you have for other users of SmartFindExpress?  I encourage my administrators to include all the optional information when inputting data. This is a good communication tool to ensure complete records. You never know when the optional data will be needed. Plus, the completed records make for a quick reference source instead of needing to cross check missing info with various files and folders.

Kimberly Salyers, Human Resource Secretary

  • What do you enjoy most about what you do?  I enjoy the constant interaction with employees and substitutes (even when they forget their log-in information) as well as the variety of tasks that come my way on a daily basis.
  • Do you have any tips or tricks for operating SmartFindExpress?  A great tip for printing reports in SmartFindExpress would be to export all your reports to excel before printing. Once everything is exported, combine them into a single manageable report that can then be printed. This allows you to print one report instead of printing groups of 13 directly from SmartFindExpress. This method saves both time and paper.

Becky Lambert, Director of Registration

  • What is your role in your district?  In a snapshot view, my role coordinates professional learning opportunities for the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership and Duval County Public Schools and develops a bi-annual calendar for district use.
