Finding substitute teachers, staff easy with eSchool Solutions
Orlando Business Journal – by Katie Kustura
Technology increasingly is becoming a major part of teaching within the classroom, but when the teacher is missing, there’s an online service that comes to the rescue.
Orlando-based eSchool Solutions Inc., winner of the software/hardware systems/ASPs category in Orlando Business Journal’s 2010 Technology Geek Awards, has become the nation’s go-to service for providing substitute teachers for the pre-K through 12th grade education system, and it’s all done without human intervention.
“Oftentimes, when a teacher is sick, very little notice is provided,” said eSchool Solutions CEO Brett D. Fadeley. “The goal of our system is, when the school bell rings, to have a substitute teacher in that classroom.”
According to the company’s website, up to 14 percent of pre-K through 12th grade teachers are absent on any given day. By using the company’s best-selling product, SmartFindExpress — which accounts for 80 percent of the business yearly — the slots are filled easily. A teacher calls the service number or uses the online service to give notification of their absence, then the system calls substitutes who are the best match for what the school needs. The company also offers Electronic Registrar Online — which functions much like SmartFindExpress, but for other staff positions at schools — and TeacherStudio. TeacherStudio, based on the book The Power of Teaching by veteran educator Joseph J. Wise, is an exclusive online service that allows teachers to share ideas and offer advice.
